Week 41: Service and SOAKED

Image
Hello everyone :) This week my companion completed 18 months on her mission and has 2 more weeks until this transfer ends and she goes home. We have been working so hard the time has passed quickly. By the time this transfer is over, I will have nearly finished 10 months on the mission which is starting to make me a bit nervous to see how fast the time is passing.  This past week was filled with some new investigators who I truly hope will progress.  We were blessed to have 8 different members work with us this past week. It is such a blessing to have members come and help testify of the truth that we are teaching as missionaries.  Something Ive learned this week from my companion is service. As part of the things we have to bring in our bags are biscuits/crackers (here in the Philippines they pronounce it biskwits haha) just in case we get hungry. There is a cute couple that is very old and have very little wealth in terms of worldly possessions (they are rich in...

Week 40: Hump day!

Dear family and friends,  I am low on time today, but I want you all to know I am alive and well. :) This past Saturday was the mark of finishing 9 months of my mission which means I am now half way finished. Super strange to say that.  I have experienced so much this past 9 months, I am so blessed to be able to have an opportunity to serve and continue to serve a mission. Especially in the Philippines.  This past week we have experienced a miracle. We were looking for a couple who used to be taught by missionaries in the past (here in the Philippines you just ask if a person knows someone and they will point you to the home of the person you were searching for). So I got this strong feeling to aska man who is a massive muscle built filipino (hes a total gym guy) if he knew the couple and he didnt, but we started talking to him and introduced ourselves as missionaries and I saw his wife at the door and they let us in and we just started talking to them. SO NICE. A...

Week 39: I never cook anymore

Image
Hello :)  So this week we had the opportunity to listen to a general authority, a member of the Seventy speak at our Stake Conference here in Roxas. It was a very spiritual experience and amazing to hear more on the importance of the Sabbath Day and the Sacrament and learn how to have more spiritual experiences as we partake of the sacrament weekly.  I am doing well and I have only cook a total of 2 times this whole week as we are fed by members every single day here for almost every lunch and dinner. We are very blessed.  In our mission we have been working to build relationships with members and so this past week we were able to attend the Family Home evening of a family here (thats what that picture is with dots on my forehead- lipstick.. fun games here haha).  Also, our dear investigator, Carlito should be baptized next month. I am truly so grateful to see the changes in people's lives. To see this investigator change his life so much to be able to meet t...

Week 38: Roxas ... mountains, ocean, and bridges

Image
Dear all, I LOVE ROXAS. For many reasons: 1) We are fed here every night by the members (I LOVE THE FOOD HERE) 2) The members here in Roxas are so kind and loving 3) The language here is Capisnon, basically the same as Hiligaynon, but a few different words and the tone is a little different, but fun :) 4) It is BUKID (means mountain or rural in Hiligaynon). There are the mountains here, the ocean is stunning and we have an awesome lighthouse here. 5) seafood capital here!! SOP GOOD. We were fed shrimp and crab by members this week :) Also I saw a cool sting ray. There's also dried salty fish here called "uga" which is so good... the members have complimented me tons saying Im an Ilongga/Filipino. 6) Mode of transportation is tricycle which is a motorcycle connected to a side car and you can fit tons of people on it haha. My favorite is sitting side saddle on the back of the motorcycle seat and sometimes we fit 2 passengers there and the drive...
