Week 51: All for Juan and Juan for all
Dear Family and friends,
This quote the lines the subject of this email is a lovely quote I saw on one of the shirts of a tricycle driver here in correlation to the local elections that have been occurring here. I laughed pretty hard at that quote and even harder at a jingle that a candidate made that is a rap in hiligaynon and is pretty funny to listen to. We memorized a part of it as we were hiking up and down the "bukid" the rural area/small mountains they have here in Culasi, Roxas on the way to our investigators.
This week we were blessed to be fed by our dear Cheena and Johnny who we helped them make super yummy chicken curry and get "gata" (the milk) out of the scraped coconut that Brother Johnny got from "kagud" (scrapping the coconut). Then we ate and had a wonderful lesson where we overviewed the Law of Chastity. Happy day.
A funny thing that happened this week was that 2 kids were truly convinced I was filipino! haha They asked if I just had contacts then I told them that I also dyed my hair and Sister Salan told them I bleached my skin haha. Cute.
Another funny thing I forgot to tell you all was that a while back a child said that I must be white "kay tungod damo air con didto sa america" because there is a lot of air conditioning there in America haha. I love their superstitions here.
Brother Carlito Fiel, the recently baptized member and his family are still doing well and an amazing thing I forgot to tell you all was that while Brother Carlito worked in the US embassy in Afghanistan he was injured by a bomb there. One of the injuries was a constant pain in one of his ears. After his baptism, his ear has not been causing him pain and they received help from the local government for his ear and he didnt even need it because his ear has been just fine haha. Amazing. They also had the blessing of being given a stand to sell vegetables and super YUMMY shakes that Nanay (mom in Ilonggo, you just say/call that basically to anyone that is of mommy age) and that came unexpectedly to them after his baptism. Blessings :)
Cool thing: As we were flagging down a tricycle driver to go to another appointment, a tricycle driver came quickly on his little motor and side car and immediately started talking to us about how he was taught by missionaries in Bacolod (on the next island over) and that they had just moved here to this city and that he had gone to church there! We took down his name and he should hopefully be visited by the missionaries in his area soon. How amazing to see how God brings people to us and us top others to receive His glorious message.
My companion used a camera of a fellow sister so we have pictures this week :)
I hope you all are doing well! Next week I get to talk to my lovely family on video call and I am STOKED. Happy day :)
Halong sa inyo tanan!
Love,
Sister Masters
