Week 34: Golden Investigator
Dear family and friends,
Do you all remember the investigator who is the one we met as she was standing on the side of the road and she understood everything so well and said this is all true? Well we have come back to her a couple times now and her name is Jezel. Here in the mission we call investigators like her "golden". which means they are the best kind of investigators because they put their faith into action and have real intent to know the truth. Jezel has read all the way up to 1 Nephi 20 (which is VERY FAR so that is happy) and she reads every night and while she holds her baby she even reads the pamphlets haha. She is so amazing. Her poor baby was sick so she could not go to church but hopefully this Sunday. Also she understands all the lessons. What is the most amazing to me is to see her talk about her love for the Book of Mormon and that she feels she relates to it. I am so blessed to see first hand, the miracles that occur in this, the Lord's work. I love that our Heavenly Father could have sent Angels to help His children to learn the truth and the restored gospel, but He has chosen to let me, a young, inexperienced daughter of His help Him in His work and become better because of it every day.
Another cool experience was to teach a 19 year old boy who is truly so sincere and to teach him the Restoration and he accepted a baptismal date :)
Most everyone is so amazed by the fact that I am still in my first area (this is my 5th transfer here and I was trained here and am training here) but I am truly so grateful to see that the work has improved so quickly this past transfer. My trainee Sister Garcia is truly the sweetest, most loving companion and has been picking up Hiligaynon so fast. She still speaks Tagalog to me sometimes but she is adding words in from Hiligaynon and she has become such an amazing missionary and teacher. The Spirit is truly what has become so strong with the 2 of us. Being able to see her improve has made me so happy as I focus on her more that myself.
Other than that, Ive noticed that something I love doing here is to come to teach people for the first time and them at first be so shy of us and silent and to make them laugh and smile and so warm to us by the end. I love the people her in the Philippines.
I love all the hugs and kisses on the cheek the old nanays (women) give to you as a greeting and the hugs here. I love the people here who give you all they have and would even give all the food they have to you. I love how short everyone is and how they call you "ga" (short for palangga which means love) and how they are so caring. I hope to one day take home that love and attribute of serving as they do. I love joking with them and just laughing because life is happy. I love how grateful they are for all they have and pray to my Heavenly father to develop their Christlike attributes.
This work is a happy work. This work is the hardest thing I've done (that includes having a year of Army ROTC under my belt), but I have truly learned so much in these past 8 months and I cant imagine what I will learn these next 10 months.
Stay tuned. I love you all and I love my Savior, Jesus Christ. He loves you and you have a Heavenly Father who desires only the best for you. Trust Him.
Dont forget to read the good word of God in the Book of Mormon and pray to your loving Heavenly Father daily :)
