Week 14: 54 Cockroaches Killed!
Hey yall :)
So this past week was slow with the work. We talked to over 190 people and taught a lot, but the area I live in had a fiesta and that meant that all people were either drunk, busy cooking, or eating. But that also meant that we ate 6 meals at other people's houses and missed 2 dinner appointments because we were waiting for Kyle to be interviewed for his Baptismal interview.
GOOD NEWS: Kyle gets baptized this Saturday and it has been so incredible to teach him everything and see his conversion to the gospel. He used to hate praying and went from not really talking to us to telling us about everything in his life and showing us magic tricks haha. He told me yesterday as we were sitting in gospel doctrine class at church that he wanted to go to the temple to do baptisms for the dead with the youth (he just turned 18- hes in high school) and that he wants to serve a mission. Sister Yang-ed (my companion) dont knw how he changed in 3 days, but he even taught one of our new investigators how to pray and helped him as he prayed during last nights lesson.
So story time:
We talked to this older woman and her grandson about the Book of Mormon and gave them one and she was SO DISINTERESTED and her apo (grandson) took it and started reading it. We thought nothing of it and walked away (that was July) and we met this old man as we were walking down this street to find the home a boy who we talked to and he and his apo (granddaughter) were there as he was cleaning his tricycle (this seat connected to a motorcycle) and we talked to him. He said he was catholic and I asked why (I am curious haha and he was nice) and he said he promised his parents he would stay catholic (His sibling is Mormon) and I asked if we could pray for him. He said oh, lets go into my house! so we went in and met his wife (SHE IS THE SAME LADY WE TALKED TO ON THE STREET) and she was so nice and we talked to them and the same grandson came in. They have so much faith and are so incredible. I saw they had a Book of Mormon on their table and asked who gave it to them and the lady said 2 sister missionaries did (I thought it was a different set) but they gave it to her last month... (it was us). and Tatay Zozimo had been reading it every night. We taught about the restoration to Tatay and a grandchild as his wife was busy and it was so spiritual as he prayed. Then we came back and Tatay wasnt there, so we taught his wife and we reached the First Vision and she told us about it!! I asked if Tatay Zozimo told her and she said yes! They believe in the message of the restored gospel through the Holy Spirit ehich testified of its truth!! What a miracle. Hoepfully we can teach them again son. The Lord seems to have truly prepared them.
I encourage you all to read the Book of Mormon, starting from the very Beginning and try to relate the stories of these REAL PEOPLE to your own life. I can tell you that that book will bring you so closeer to the Savior as you pray to know its truth and how you can apply it to your life and how it testifies of our Brother and Savior Jesus Christ.
Philippines tips:
Cook Mongo beans and rice. We ate and we couldve made these beans last about 10 meals for less than a dollar. INSANE and so NAMIT (Delicious).
We are up to 54 cockroaches killed in these last 7 weeks in my apartment! So exciting!
Also the language is becoming easier :) I love speaking it daily
