Week 35: Atonement (126 cockroaches)

Image
Hello everyone :)  The highlight of this week was Sister Jezel coming to church!  Yesterday was the best Sunday of my whole mission. We walked over to her one room home and waited for her and to see her come out all dressed up with her 1 year and 5 month old son was the happiest thing :) She was so excited. We rode the jeepney over and then walked the short way  to church.  Then at church we went to Sacrament meeting and then seeing her answering questions and sharing her experiences with the other investigators and the recent convert Teacher of the class was SO HAPPY. She expressed her love for the Book of Mormon and that even though her boyfriend asks her what shes reading about mMormons, she just tells him, "basahon mo siya agud nga maintyendehan mo man" Read it and youll understand too! haha She is so happy. She used to be a Jehovah's witness missionary and tried Catholicism as well as another church here and to see her joy as she learns more about the prop...

Week 9: Philippines Is Great!

Image
Hey yall! The Philippines is great. Life is not hard like I thought it would be. I actually dont struggle with the trash, bathing out of a bucket, no oven, killing cockraches, and washing my clothes by hand. I thought it would be hard, but I guess all the camping Ive done has prepared me haha. The thing that is hard for me is lack of similar spices or ingredients in their markets. I DONT KNOW HOW TO COOK HERE haha. Apparently I am a super american cooker cause Im useless here and my companion cooks for me. I will get better Im sure. The other hard thing for me is not understanding all that the natives say to me. I have been learning a lot of Ilonggo. Its sometimes overwhelming cause I can speak basically what I want to say all the time (regarding religious stuff) but I cant understand conversational stuff outside of church yet. I was talking to the Zone Leaders (The elders in my ward) and they are both Kano (american) they said that I am super sagad (skilled good), but understandi...

Week 30: I'm a trainer!!

Image
Dear Family and Friends,  BIG NEWS: I am training a new missionary!  I got the news yesterday that I will be training one of the new missionaries that enter the Philippines Iloilo mission next week. Im a little scared as it is a massive responsibility but my friend says a quote fairly often and I am taking it to heart with this new assignment: "Two people can do anything, as long as one of them is the Lord". Also my companion has told me that "Who the Lord calls, He qualifies" as right now I do not feel too qualified for this, but I trust the Lord will guide me as I exercise my faith in Him and become more humble as I train all I know to this new missionary. We are fairly low in investigators right now (at least low for Philippines missions) but I have faith that as i open my mouth and speak to more people, the Lord will bless us with miracles.  I have been in this area for over 5 months now this being my upcoming 5th transfer her...
